An action-packed, blood-soaked, futuristic debut thriller set in a world where the murder rate is higher than the birthrate. For fans of Moira Young’s Dust Lands series, La Femme Nikita, and the movie Hanna.

Meadow Woodson, a fifteen-year-old girl who has been trained by her father to fight, to kill, and to survive in any situation, lives with her family on a houseboat in Florida. The state is controlled by The Murder Complex, an organization that tracks the population with precision.

The plot starts to thicken when Meadow meets Zephyr James, who is—although he doesn’t know it—one of the MC’s programmed assassins. Is their meeting a coincidence? Destiny? Or part of a terrifying strategy? And will Zephyr keep Meadow from discovering the haunting truth about her family?

Action-packed, blood-soaked, and chilling, this is a dark and compelling debut novel by Lindsay Cummings.

My Thoughts :

Imagine living in a world where you have no say, that your every move is watched and if you are out in the Dark Time then you may not make it home alive. Imagine a world where when you walk the street you are stepping over bodies and blood. Well that's the world Meadow lives in.

Meadows father has trained her since she was little. She is killer with any weapon, literally! They live on rations and now that Meadow is of age she hopes to get a proper job and earn more food. She has to pass the test first though.

When she meets Zephyr she has no idea what she has let herself in for. Who is this handsome stranger? How does he know her? What does he want? Her life is about to take a chilling and deadly turn but will Meadow survive?

Wow. I am blown away!!! I didn't just read this, I devoured it. What a deliciously dark and deadly world.

Meadow was amazing. Kick ass with a capital K. Her father would do surprise attacks on her growing up so she could get out of any situation. He trained her never to hesitate because its a kill or be killed world. Since her mother was killed and her brother failed his test for work its up to her to look after her sister. Every single day is a struggle just to survive. Meadow has such a hard life but she never shys away from it.

I loved Zephyr. He is a Ward, which in his world is the lowest of the low. They get meager rations and his job is to pick up all the dead bodies they find every day. He dreams of a silver haired girl but he also dreams of murders that he commits. He wakes up every morning with blood on his hands and no recollection of what happened. He just wants to keep his head down and out of trouble but when he meets Meadow this becomes impossible.

Plot wise The Murder Complex was breathtakingly unique. The whole world the author has created was so dark and dangerous. Every night there are murders everywhere. Hundreds of people could die in one night and no one knows how or why. We slowly find out as the story progresses and it was fascinating.

With plenty of action and twists and turns this is a must read. The characters are complex and the writing is captivating. Its such a harsh horrible bloody world but makes for unputdownable addictive reading ;) With everything that happened and with the secrets revealed I Can Not Wait for more!! Stunning debut and Id highly recommend.
